Squarespace Fluid Engine

The next generation of Squarespace’s drag & drop content editing experience

What is Fluid Engine?

Simply put… an Absolute Game Changer! Fluid Engine is the new content editing experience for Squarespace websites on 7.1 which lets you intuitively position and resize blocks using modern CSS Grid Technology.

With Fluid Engine you can:

  • Drag and drop blocks anywhere on the section grid

  • Resize content simply by dragging corner handles

  • Overlap blocks and position blocks in front and behind other blocks

  • Select multiple blocks and move them as a group

  • Arrange and resize content specific for mobile devices

How will this affect SquareKicker?

All existing sites that have been created with the Classic Editor using SquareKicker will not be affected.

SquareKicker will continue to work as normal on all existing and future sites that have Classic Sections, even if a site has Fluid Engine enabled. New Tools have been created specific to Fluid Engine Blocks and Sections

Why we are excited

SquareKicker tools for Classic Editor have been created to give designers more design control, but as the Classic Editor is built with an older approach to web design using rows and columns, it proved difficult to make tools that would enable the kind of designs you really wanted.

Fluid Engine has brought the power of CSS Grid Technology to Squarespace, now SquareKicker tools will work EVEN BETTER and will continue to empower Squarespace users with even more control to take Squarespace sites to the next level.

A few exciting ways Fluid Engine is going to improve SquareKicker

  • More defined control with Sticky Blocks

  • Improved Scrolling Effects experience

  • Improved experience with SquareKicker Block Position tools

  • Brand new shared block tools that will increase design speed

  • More complex design with easier to use tools going forward
