Frequently Asked Questions

  • SquareKicker offers you the ability to optimize your designs for desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile ensuring your work is perfectly displayed every time.

  • Yes! SquareKicker is fully compatible with both the classic editor and Fluid Engine. The freedom of Fluid enables you to control blocks like never before while also allowing advanced SK tools like scrolling effects and sticky blocks.

SquareKicker tools on Fluid Engine look a little different from SquareKicker tools on classic. The same tools exist in Fluid and classic, but there is more functionality and new features that exist specifically for Fluid Engine.

For more information on Fluid Engine, check out our tutorial, Squarespace Fluid Engine in 8 minutes.

  • During a free trial, you will have full access to all of SquareKicker’s functionality. SK changes made during your trial will save to the SK server and your Squarespace’s code injection area just as if a developer were to write it.

Once your trial has expired, your SK changes will disappear and the SK extension will become disabled. If you want to continue working with SquareKicker, upgrade to any paid plan and all your changes will be re-applied.

  • Like any custom code, there are some vulnerabilities if Squarespace makes changes. However, SquareKicker has taken significant steps to ensure this will have minimal impact on SK users.

As a software as a service company, we are continually working on the product, which includes implementing changes responsive to Squarespace updates. These changes are supplied to all active websites (those with a current subscription).

It’s also important to note that we are not dependent on Squarespace’s UI (user interface) where most of the code changes and updates happen. SquareKicker has its own UI leaving it incredibly resilient to Squarespace updates.

  • YES! You can build your client's site using SK. This is best done using our Designer plan where you can design up to 10 websites at a time. Once you are finished with the build you can either:

a.) Keep this website in your active list.

b.) Move the website to your inactive list. This will disable SquareKicker and you won’t be able to make further changes but all existing changes will stay visible even on an expired plan. If you wish to make changes at a later date you can add the site back into your active list.

c.) If your client wants to make their own SquareKicker changes, they can start a subscription and the website can be transferred to their own plan.

  • When you uninstall SquareKicker, your saved changes are backed up to our server but they will no longer be visible on your live site. You do not have to have an active subscription for your SquareKicker customizations to be visible!

To uninstall, go to your main SK menu in the upper right-hand corner, Account > Uninstall. SquareKicker will do a complete uninstall and remove your SK installation script and SK custom code.

To reinstall, add your unique SK script (from your SK Dashboard) to your footer injection area. SquareKicker will install on your site and all changes from your latest backup will be restored.

  • Once on a paid plan, all your changes will be saved in your site’s code injection area forever and are backed up to our SK server, even if your subscription expires.

SquareKicker creates compliant HTML, CSS, and Javascript and stores it directly into your website’s code Injection area. Your changes are backed up on SquareKicker’s server so you have peace of mind and never have to worry about losing your changes.

  • Your SquareKicker code runs super fast as the code is stored in your Squarespace code injection area, rather than an external server. The SquareKicker extension only runs while in Squarespace admin mode which means it is super lightweight in terms of loading time to your site.

Technically speaking, this means that the only speed impact will be the amount of customization you add to your site similar to any extra custom CSS or JavaScript you add manually. However, all of your SquareKicker code is compiled & minified for speed and performance before it is saved to your site.

  • All changes will remain on the site even after the subscription has expired or been cancelled. You will not be able to make further changes using SK until your subscription has been updated. If you wish to use SK on the site again you can reactivate your subscription using the original connection process. So you can customize your site without ongoing costs to you or your client, that’s a win!

  • We have developed a healthy relationship with Squarespace as one of their partners. We strive to keep open communication with the Squarespace team as we find ways to develop this tool for the Squarespace community while respecting Squarespace’s platform and the amazing work that they do!

  • If you want to use SquareKicker on another website you have two options:

1.) Create a new Solo subscription for each website (1 site per subscription).

2.) Upgrade to a Designer plan and add another website to your active list.

The Annual Designer plan gives you the best value if you have more than 2 websites.

No continual subscription is needed to keep SK changes active. All design changes made using SK will remain even after a subscription expires or is made inactive on a Designer or Agency subscription.

  • On the Designer plan, you can have up to 10 active sites at any given time. Once you have finished a site you can remove it from your ‘active sites’ list freeing a spot for you to add a new project to your list. All design changes will remain even after the site has been removed from your active list, if you wish to come back to the site to make further changes simply reconnect the site to your account.

Designer and Agency plans support up to 10 or 25 active websites at a time.

  • If your client would like to create more custom changes using SquareKicker they can sign up for an account and you can transfer the site to their own subscription.

  • To use SquareKicker, you will need a Squarespace business plan or higher. This allows you access to Squarespace premium features, including the code injection area where SquareKicker saves your site’s custom code.

Note: SquareKicker will work on a Squarespace free trial as these have access to the footer injection area. However, a personal Squarespace plan will not work as these premium features are unavailable. https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015517328
